The Pyramids of Giza
The pyramids themselves are a beautiful sight to behold. The problem with going to see them in person is that you are going to be confronted by aggressive vendors and beggars who take away the fun. Authorities have also taken steps to prevent people from touching the Sphinx or climb the pyramids, so you will miss out on those experiences that people once enjoyed.
The Parthenon
Many of the sculptures that once adorned the old Athens’ temple aren’t there any longer. Some are now housed at the British Museum and others were destroyed by an explosion in 1687. On top of those disappointments, the site is being restored, which isn’t going to be finished anytime soon, so you will be treated to viewing a construction site complete with modern day cranes and other heavy equipment.
The Equator at Mitad del Mundo
Tourists flock to take their picture here along the equator. The problem is that the place has become a huge tourist trap, which automatically turns some people off. Another issue is that when you stand on the yellow line on the ground that represents the equator, you aren’t actually where you think you are.
The true equator is a couple of hundred yards to the north, which is a huge disappointment for many. While all of these might be attractions to include on your itinerary if you are already going to the city they are in, you might not want to make them your main attraction. It is better to find places that you can enjoy instead of ones that are sure to disappoint.
